Espoo Rantamaraton and half-marathon 25.9.2011 – half-marathon at 11.00 and marathon at 12.00


Welcome to run in Espoo! The route, which mainly consists of cycle paths, provides a possibility to enjoy the interior and coastline of Espoo. The conditions including the basis and possible windy weather on the coast, should to be considered when choosing the right equipment and clothing for the race.  Also when planning the pace you should notice that all the noticeable hills are on the first half of the marathon route.  You can find more information about the route from our website: www.rantamaraton.fi.

Timing
Racetimer will be responsible for the race timing. Everyone will get a brutto time (time between the official start signal and crossing the finish line) and the chip time (the time taken for you from when you crossed the start line to the time you crossed the finish line). On marathon an intermediate time will be taken at half-marathon (21.1km). The official results will be based on the brutto times. The user instructions for the ChampionChip are on the next page.
The 10 km run won't be timed. There will be a screen at the finish from where you can check your own time.’

The timing chip is attached to the race number. It is quite robust, but extreme handling and heat should be avoided. The chip is single use and thus no need to return after the race. The safety pins may be returned to a box at the race office.
 

Massage

On Sunday there will be masseurs from Espoon Urheiluhierontakeskus providing a possibility for a light leg massage after the run. Massage can be found at the shot put place in Otahalli. The treatment is free of charge and there is no need for any advance bookings.


Drink stations
There will be drink stations at the following places:
Marathon: 4.2km, 9km, 13.2km, 17.8km, 22.4km, 27.4km, 32.3km, 35.7km, 39.5km, finish.
Half-marathon: 3.7km, 7.6km, 11.2km, 14.6.7km, 18.4km, finish.
10 km run: 5km, finish.

At each station there will be water and Powerbar-sportsdrink (Powerbar Energize isotonic sports drink, lemon, 3% strength) available. At the later stations of marathon and half-marathon also raisins, bananas and salted cucumbers will be served. Dropping out during the race
If you need to drop out during the race you will get a drive to the race center. Please contact the nearest officials of the race. In case you prefer to leave the place by your own ride, please phone the office at +358 45 8952144 so that you are not searched after the race.


Race number

Race number (and the chip) can be picked up from the race office.  The race number should be pinned to the front of your shirt so that the numbers are clearly visible all the time.  The number should be used in order to get any service during the race or at the finishing area. The 10km runners do not have race numbers, but the registration paper should be kept visible to get the services along the route.
Please, write your name behind the running number as well as possible diseases you might have and medications you are using. This makes the work of the medical personnel easier and you will get quicker health care, in case you need to use the medical services along the route or at the finishing area.

Duration of race
The maximum race time for marathon is 6 hours from the start. This means the runner must cross the finishing line at 6:15 pm at the latest, to be able to get a result. The half-marathon finish area is closed at the same time, so the maximum race time for half-marathon is seven hours. This time limitations will be used in all functions of the race, for example the services after the race will be closed according to the schedule at 6:15 pm. If needed, the slower runners will get a lift back to the race center. With 10km run all the participants are awaited to finish the route. 

The exact closing times will be available in the web pages. Slow runners will be notified if the pace get too slow.

 

Kiosk and cafeteria

Outside on the sports field there is a kiosk selling light snacks and drinks. Cafeteria Caferina in Otahalli is open also.

Race-expo
The race expo is located at the race center. There you can buy and get familiar with the products of our co-operating companies.

Race office and race center
The race center is in the Otaniemi sports center (Otaranta, Espoo)
Kisakanslia ja -keskus
The race office, which is located in Otahalli, is open on Saturday 24th September from 10am to 6pm and on Sunday 25th September from 8am to 6pm.The race numbers should be picked up one hour before your start at the latest.


Medical service
Medical center Dextra takes care of the medical services during the race. Medical services can be contacted at each refreshment station. It will also be available at the finishing area.In case of emergency the ambulance is ready to start at any time during the race.


Start
Start area will be at the race center (Otaranta, Espoo). The 10km runs will start on Saturday 24th September at 3:00 pm. The half-marathon will start on Sunday 25th September at 11:00am and the marathon at 12:00. You should be at the start area not later than15 minutes before the start. There will be a short warming-up exercise (by Fressi) before each start.
Select your spot at the start area according to your own expected finishing time. There will be signs indicating the target times.


Finish
Finishing area will be at the Otaniemi sports field (Otaranta, Espoo). Marathon and half-marathon runners will get their medals. In the finish there are Gainomax recovery drinks as well as some small snacks available for the runners. The finishing area will be open only for runners and race officials.

Hotels

The official hotel for the event is Radisson Blu Hotel Espoo, located at the race center in Otaniemi.

Medal, t-shirt and prizes
The runners will get a t-shirt with the race number. The T-shirt is a technical running shirt by Adidas. Each runner finishing the marathon or the half-marathon receives a Rantamaraton-medal. Three best of each class will be rewarded. The prize giving ceremony will take place as soon as the final results are confirmed.

Personal refreshments
If you have personal refreshments please bring them to the information desk at the race office on race day two ours before your start (marathon by 10 am, half-marathon by 9:00 am) at the latest.  There will be no personal refreshment service for the 10km run.

Postponing  participation or changing participant information
The entry fees are not refunded under any circumstances. However, you are able to postpone your registration to next year's event in case of sickness or injury by paying an office fee (10 EUR) and showing a doctor’s certificate of the reason to postpone the participation. You can deliver the doctor's certificate to the race office, send it by e-mail to kanslia@rantamaraton.fi or post it to us (address: Rantamaraton, c/o Esbo IF, PB 74, 02771 Esbo).

Changing participant information can be done at the race office two and half hours before the start at the latest. An office-fee of 10€ will be charged. The contacts for the office are as follows: kanslia@rantamaraton.fi and phone +358 45 8952144.

Dressing-rooms
Dressing rooms can be found at Otahalli and the sports field. There are also showers available.

Parking
Otaniemi provides plenty of parking places and parking guidance is arranged to help the traffic in Otaniemi. However, Otaniemi can be easily reached by public transportation as well. With the public transportation the best route for you is easy to find using http://www.reittiopas.fi.

Route markings and control
The route will be marked by signs and lines at all cross-roads. The police and traffic controllers will be controlling the route. Each kilometer will be marked by a sign.

Rules
Rantamaraton officials and participants must comply with the official competition rules of the international amateur athletic federation (IAAF).

Results
Preliminary results are displayed on a screen at the finish area and on our web page (on-line). The official results will be published later on our web page.

Insurance
Everyone is running at their own risk.

Equipment storage
Runners can leave their personal belongings to the equipment storage in Otahalli. Pack your belongings to one bag, mark it clearly with your race number and give it to the personnel of the equipment storage. You will get your belongings back showing your race number. 


Toilets
Toilets can be found in Otahalli, at the sports field as well as from outside. On the route toilets will be available at most of the drink stations.
